Most hospice voluneers don’t know much about home funerals. They don’t understand the laws, best practices, or how to be supportive of families choosing to care for their dead in this way. It’s not their fault – hospice volunteers have so many things to consider and funerals fall outside of their purview. But that lack of understanding can create problems for the volunteers and the organizations where they work. Misunderstandings, especially at the time of death, are stressful and costly.
Lee Webster has seen this firsthand, and is making it her mission to fix the problem. The solution is simple: education. “Hospice and Home Funerals In-Service Series” is a tool for hospice organizations to provide basic training on home funerals.
