The Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice (APFSP) has approved the Green Funeral Services course for 12 contact hours for funeral director continuing education. Every state has their own licensing requirements, but APFSP-approved courses are recognized by almost every state.

Instructor Samuel Perry is a funeral director and has taught a similar course for a mortuary school for many years. We’ve seen a lot of interest from existing funeral service providers. Some funeral directors see green funerals as a potential disrupter to their business, but many more see it as an opportunity to expand their product offerings and respond to the changing preferences of their customers.

After completing the course, some will pursue their “Certificate of Proficiency in Green Funeral Service” through the Green Burial Council.
